Men's Tennis Shuts Out CCNY in Quarterfinals

Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y.— The John Jay men's tennis team has earned a trip to the semifinal round of the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference / Hospital for Special Surgery after a 5-0 win in the quarterfinal round over the City College of New York on Friday evening.
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds, the No. 3 seed, will play on Sunday at 3 p.m. against No. 2 seed the College of Staten Island at the USTA National Tennis Center.
 
In Friday's win, the Bloodhounds ripped through doubles to play to lead 3-0. At No. 3 doubles, Frantisek Demek and Stephen Walz cruised to an 8-1 win over Roberto Zhang and Sallem Ahmed. Then at No. 2 doubles, Yevgeniy Remennik and Luis Chirinos doubled up the CCNY team of Pavel Shapturenka and Wilson Lai, 8-4. At No. 1 doubles, the team of Erkut Cakmak and Tomas Montes De Oca went all out for a 9-8 (7-5) victory over David Arroyave and Do Hyun kim.
 
In singles play, Frantisek earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ahmed at No. 6, while Remennik picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Zhang at No. 5 to seal the victory and send the Bloodhounds to the semifinals.
