Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y.— The John Jay men's tennis team was defeated by the College of Staten Island, 5-2, in the semifinal round of the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference / Hospital for Special Surgery men's tennis championship. The loss ends the Bloodhounds' season at 12-4 overall.
 
In doubles play, the Bloodhounds fell behind 2-1. John Jay lost the first two doubles matches before winning the remaining one to cut the deficit in half. At No. 3 doubles, Stephen Walz and Frantisek Demek lost 8-4 to Hector Molina and Ed Ruffe.  Moments later, the No. 2 doubles team of Yevgeniy Remennik and Luis Chirinos lost 8-4 to Daniel Ursomanno and Austin Kapetanakis.
 
At No. 1 doubles, Erkut Cakmak and Tomas Montes De Oca earned a hard fought decision over Nicholas Zikos and Timur Shamuradov, beating them 9-7.
 
Then in singles play, CSI went up 3-1 after Shamuradov beat Chirinos 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Then Molina beat Derrick Chung 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to take a 4-1 advantage.
 
John Jay then picked up a win at No. 1 as Cakmak handled Zikos 6-3, 6-2. But CSI got another win to wrap up the match as Ruffe defeated Frantisek 6-2, 6-4 leaving No. 4 and No.5 singles as the only unfinished matches.
