With a run in the bottom of the first, and two more in the second, the host Dolphins took a 3-2 lead after two innings. But the lead only lasted into the top of the third as John Jay scored another two runs to retake the lead. First the Bloodhounds tied the score at three when a single by Barillas drove in Altamirano before Lopez scored after a passed ball by the Staten Island pitcher.
