RANDALL'S ISLAND, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team was eliminated from postseason play on Wednesday afternoon as the Bloodhounds, the No. 5 seed were defeated by No. 4 seed Hunter College, 7-0, in the play-in game of the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference / Applebee's softball championship.
With the loss, the John Jay season ends at 9-19-1 overall and a 4-8 record in conference play. Hunter College improves to 13-26 overall this season, and advances into the double elimination tournament starting this Friday at the College of Staten Island Softball Complex where the Hawks will play top seeded Baruch College.
In Wednesday's game, Hunter scored two runs in the bottom of the first to lead 2-0 after one inning. Then the Hawks broke the game open with a five run fourth inning to take a 7-0 lead after four.
John Jay had three hits in the contest, two of which were doubles.
Lana Kovac was 1-for-2 with a double, while
Marlin Rallas was 1-for-3 with a double.
Kaylee Fry went 1-for-2.
Hunter College had 13 hits, and the Hawks were led by Brianna Kresback who was 3-for-4 with two runs, while Meghan O'Shea went 1-for-3 with a homerun and five runs batted in. Molly Meehan, Holly Isenberg, Julia Lipovac and Briana Lombardo added two hits each for Hunter.
