The women's soccer team was defeated by the College of Staten Island, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the CSI Soccer Complex. John Jay begins the season 0-1 and the Dolphins start 1-0.

During the first twenty minutes of the first half, the play was even with both teams getting opportunities to take an early lead. However, Staten Island got on the board first after Demi-Jean Martorano headed one past sophomore goalie Katelyn Davis. Ten minutes later, Martorano would score the second goal of the contest and her second of the game. CSI added two more goals in the second half to seal the victory.

The Bloodhounds were led by sophomores Jasmine Cardona and Daniela Molina, who each recorded a shot on goal. Davis finished the game with a remarkable nine saves on thirteen shots. Dolphins' Melissa Gelardi led all players with eight shots.

"Despite the score, I am very happy with our performance today," fourth-year head coach Kamal Haruna said. "The girls played with confidence, defended well and were organized. This performance will make us a better team for future games."

The Bloodhounds close out the holiday weekend with a game on Sunday against CUNYAC opponent CCNY at 12pm at the CSI Soccer Complex.
