Box Score The women's tennis team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday night against conference opponent York College, 8-1. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-2 (1-0 CUNYAC) while the Cardinals drop their first game of the season. 

John Jay got off to an early lead when the tandem of sophomores Natalie Cervantes and Jessica Melchiorre defeated York's Chloe Baird and Tamara Dotson, 8-0, at third doubles. Heading into singles play, the Bloodhounds led 3-0 after sweaping doubles. In singles, freshman Enida Morina, Cervantes and Melchiorre defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Armine Kurkjian and freshman Gabriela Baez recorded wins to give John Jay an 8-1 win. All of John Jay's wins came in straight sets.

"Before we stepped on the court, the team knew that we could win so we went out there and did," first-year head coach Lauren Mallon said. Mallon also recorded her first collegiate win as a head coach. 

The Bloodhounds continue their road trip with a match on Saturday, September 14 at Purchase College. The match is scheduled for 11:00am.
