Box Score The men's soccer team battled NYU-Poly to a 4-4 tie on Monday evening at Randall's Island. The game saw two overtime periods, several lead changes and exciting play. The Bloodhounds are now 0-6-1 for the season while the Fighting Blue Jays go to 0-3-1.
For the first 20 minutes of play, each team had their chances but both defense's and goaltender's were sharp early on. John Jay was able to take a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when junior
Pablo Rojas netted the first goal of the game on a pass from transfer
Graysen Carlson. However, the Fighting Blue Jays responded with two goals of their own in a five minutes span. The Bloodhounds were able to bounce back to close out the half when Carlson and junior
Abdoulay Sarr each scored goals to give John Jay a 3-2 lead heading into the second half.Â
In the 55th minute, NYU-Poly's Andres Torres scored off a free kick to tie the game at 3. The next fifteen minutes saw even play with each team taking less chances. With roughly ten minutes left to play in the match, freshman
Alexis Bustillo scored off a free kick to give the Bloodhounds their third lead of the day. However, NYU-Poly was awarded a corner kick and a Fighting Blue Jay was able to tip in the game-tying goal to send it into overtime. Neither team would score in two overtime periods and the game ended in a 4-4 tie.Â
Bustillo finished with two goals on the night while Carlson led the team with three shots.Â
"We are moving in the right direction," first-year head coach Nathan Bell said. "But we still have much to prove."
The Bloodhounds hit the road for a game against conference opponent Baruch on Saturday, September 21.Â
