Box Score The women's soccer team shutout CUNYAC opponent Medgar Evers, 11-0, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds pick up their first conference win and are now 2-3 overall. The Cougars drop to 0-4 on the season.
The Bloodhounds got on the scoreboard three minutes into the game when freshman
Jessica Jean received a pass from sophomore
Daniela Molina and kicked it past the Cougar's goaltender for an early 1-0 lead. This was Jean's first collegiate goal and Molina's first assist of the season.
Later in the half, freshman
Liliana Bonilla scored three consecutive goals in the box, the first three of her career, to give the Bloodhounds a 5-0 lead. John Jay recorded an additional two goals to close out the half up by eight.
In the 60th minute, sophomore
Xochitl Ariza made a nice pass to Bonilla who buried it for her fourth goal of the game. Sophomore
Samantha Guillen added two goals, her first two of the season, late in the match to give the Bloodhounds a 11-0 win.
Andrea Antoni recorded the shutout, her first of the season, after saving the lone shot she faced. The Bloodhounds outshot the Cougars 27-1. Bonilla finished with four goals and one assist while Jean registered one goal and two assists.
Stephannie Rengifo recorded two goals and one assist and sophomore
Katelyn Davis added one goal and one assist.
"We were looking for a fast start to the game and we were fortunate to score early on," head coach
Kamal Haruna said. "The team played fast and made some quick passes, which opened up the scoring lanes. The squad is getting stronger and healthier, which is very encouraging from a coaching mindset."
John Jay is back at it on Monday, September 23 when they head up to SUNY Purchase. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
