Box Score Senior William Ortiz scored at the 117th minute mark in the second overtime period to give the John Jay men's soccer team a 3-2 win against York College. With this victory, the Bloodhounds pick up their 2nd straight win of the season (2-8-1 overall, 2-1 in CUNYAC) and the Cardinals fall to 3-6 overall (1-2 in CUNYAC).

John Jay opened up the game with a scoring opportunity at the 10 minute mark. The Bloodhounds' junior Graysen Carlson had a corner kick and placed it into the box. Junior Drew Guerra leaped up and headed the ball to the corner but a Cardinal defender was right there to keep the game scoreless. Later on in the half, York's McLaney Moise scored off a corner kick to give York a 1-0 lead.

The rest of the half would see even play with both teams unable to find the back of the net. York outshot the Bloodhounds in the first half 9-3. Junior goalkeeper Vitecha Kochaon made three saves.

Like the first half, the first 25 minutes of play in the second half saw each team recording shots but unable to hit the net. In the 71st minute, York's Brandon Yotagri found the ball outside the box and made a perfect shot inside the crossbar to give the Cardinals' a late 2-0 lead.

However, the Bloodhounds responded right away when Ortiz fed a long pass to senior Besian Shala. The pass enabled Shala to break away from the defense and put it past York's goalkeeper to cut the lead to one. John Jay continued increasing the pressure as it got closer to the 90th minute but York's defense consistently cleared the zone preventing any scoring chances.

At the 86th minute and the Bloodhounds firing away, Ortiz fired a long pass to junior Pablo Rojas who buried it in the back of the net to tie the game at 2.

The first overtime went scoreless with each team recording one shot. In the second overtime, Ortiz found the ball outside the box. He made a move and fired a perfect shot in the upper 90 to give the Bloodhounds a come-from-behind 3-2 victory.

"The team showed a lot of character coming from 2 goals down and missing key players," head coach Nathan Bell said. "I'd like to commend the hard work our freshman have been putting in during practice that prepared them for their emergency role in this game."

Kochaon finished with 12 saves on the day. Rojas had a team-high two shots on goal and the game-tying goal. Ortiz recorded the game winner and game-tying assist. York's Andre Adelson recorded a game-high six shots and Michael Delgado registered a game-high four shots on goal.

The Bloodhounds will head to Staten Island for a match against CSI on Wednesday, October 2 at the CSI Soccer Complex.
