Men's Soccer Suffers Defeat to WCSU

Box Score The men's soccer team lost its home opener, 4-1, to Western Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds stand at 0-4 while the Colonials improve to 2-1.

Western Connecticut took an early 1-0 lead one minute into the match when Phil Dagostino buried an open net after receiving a perfect pass from Matthew Martin. A short time later, the Colonials added an unassisted goal from Ignacio Alday. The rest of the first half saw even play with each team getting an equal amount of scoring chances.

John Jay opened up the second half by controlling the ball and making smart passes. Transfer Graysen Carlsen received a pass from Gerardo Flores-Ramirez and found the back of the net to cut the lead to one. However, Western Connecticut responded with two goals to seal the victory and give them their second win of the season.

Carlsen, freshman Alexis Bustillo and junior Christian Ortiz led the way for the Bloodhounds with two shots each. Colonials' Alday finished with a team-high three shots.

The Bloodhounds hit the road on Tuesday, September 10 for a match against William Paterson at 7pm.
