Box Score The women's soccer team fell to SUNY Maritime, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds start the season 0-3 while the Privateers improve to 3-1.
Maritime got on the board in the 14th minute of play when Jorrie Trenkamp broke through the Bloodhounds defense and nailed one inside the corner to give the Privateers an early 1-0 lead. A little more than twenty minutes later, Trenkamp was able to net her second goal of the game on a breakaway.
John Jay responded in the second half by intensifying the pressure and getting more shots on goal. In the 59th minute, junior Alexis Ochoa shot one past the Privateers goaltender after receiving a perfect pass from sophomore
Natalie Cervantes. Later in the second half, Trenkamp scored her third goal of the game, giving her a hat trick.
The Bloodhounds were led by Ochoa, who finished with three shots including two on net. Sophomore
Samantha Guillen added three shots, and sophomores
Katelyn Davis and
Jasmine Cardona registered two shots. Sophomore
Andrea Antoni finished the game with eight saves. Maritime was led by Trenkamp with nine shots.
John Jay will play its second home game on Saturday, September 14 against CCNY.
