The women's basketball team defeated the City College of NY (CCNY), 63-55, on Wednesday afternoon at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Bloodhounds take the season series from the Beavers, 2-0, and improve to 6-11 overall and 4-5 in CUNYAC. The Beavers drop to 6-10 on the season and 3-6 in CUNYAC.
John Jay outscored CCNY 33-23 in the first half as the Bloodhounds shot 41.9% from the field. In the second half, John Jay struggled, shooting 10-for-35 from the field.
Senior
Jamecia Forsythe and junior
Tyana Hale recorded double-doubles for the Bloodhounds. Forsythe picked up her 10th of the season with 16 points, 14 rebounds (6 offensive), three steals, and two blocks. Hale registered her second of the season with 16 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and two assists.
Junior
Amanda Jimenez added nine points and seven rebounds and junior
Sherrice Marshall swiped three steals. Sophomore
Amber Villegas finished with a game-high five assists.
Beavers' Karissa Core led the Beavers in scoring with a game-high 19 points and three steals. Bria Fisher came off the bench and recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 16 rebounds (11 offensive).
"We needed to win today," head coach
Diane Ramirez said. "We came out strong and Tyana (Hale) and Jamecia (Forsythe) led the way."
The Bloodhounds will return to the Doghouse on Friday, January 24 for a conference game against the Baruch Bearcats at 5:00pm.
