Women's Basketball Falls In a Back-And-Forth Battle Against Baruch College

The women's basketball team battled Baruch College but fell, 66-57, on Friday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds drop to 4-6 in CUNYAC and 6-12 on the season. The Bearcats are now second in CUNYAC with a 8-2 CUNYAC record and 12-6 overall record. 

John Jay got off to a hot start as junior Tyana Hale recorded the first six points of the game. The Bearcats cut the lead to two but a jump shot by senior Jamecia Forsythe and two successful free-throws by sophomore Amber Villegas extended the lead back up to six.

Later on, Forsythe and Hale recorded back-to-back buckets to increase the lead to 10. However, Baruch responded going on a 13-0 run with 7:13 remaining in the half. Villegas gave the Bloodhounds the lead on two free-throws but the Bearcats tied the game at 20. Heading into the second half, the visitors led 30-26.

Baruch started the second half on a 4-0 run to give them a six-point lead. Five minutes into the second half, two free-throws by sophomore Tamara Jones tied the game. Jones then nailed a jump shot to give the Bloodhounds a 36-34 lead. The next five minutes went back-and-forth with each team exchanging leads.

With just under 10 minutes left in the contest, Baruch went on a 6-0 run to lead by seven. The Bearcats increased the lead to 10 four minutes later. Baruch would hold on to the lead to take the conference game by a score of 66-57.

Hale led all scorers with 19 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Forsythe registered a team-high nine rebounds and eight points. Jones was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and recorded 12 points, four rebounds, and one block off the bench. Villegas and sophomore Terri Chu each picked up three assists

Baruch's Sheridan Taylor finished with a team high 13 points and game-high 15 rebounds. Alicea Ulmer and Francess Henry recorded 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Bloodhounds will host the Hunter Hawks on Wednesday, January 29 at 5:00pm.
