The men's soccer team fell to Hunter College, 2-1, in the first round of the CUNYAC Championships on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds finish the season with an overall record of 6-11. Hunter improves to 4-11-1 overall.
The first half featured strong play by both goalkeepers. Both teams had scoring chances but were unable to capitalize. The Hawks recorded 11 shots while the Bloodhounds had five. Senior
Vitecha Kochaon made seven saves while Hunter's Zachary Metz had three.
Four minutes into the second half, Hunter scored the first goal of the contest on a shot outside the box. In the 52nd minute, and three minutes later, the Hawks increased the lead to two on Diego Cisneros' second goal of the game.
John Jay started intensifying the pressure and took shots from all angles. With the ball mostly on the Hunter's side, senior
Graysen Carlson dribbled inside the Hawks' box and placed a perfect kick into the back of the net to cut the deficit to one.
The Bloodhounds had a great scoring chance a few minutes later when sophomore
Alexis Bustillo blasted a shot from outside the box but Metz made the save. Unfortunately, John Jay was unable to find the back of the net in the final minutes.
Carlson led the Bloodhounds with one goal, four shots, and three shots on goal. Bustillo had a game-high six shots and five shots on goal. Kochaon made nine saves in the contest.
This game turned out to be the final one of
