In the bottom of the second with no score, Michael Murray led off with a homerun to right field and the Scarlet Raiders tacked on another run later in the inning. In the following frame, the hosts added another run on a homerun by Jimmy Napolitano to give them a 3-0 lead.Â
In the fourth inning, senior
Nico Rivera singled through the left side. He stole second but was left stranded, as the Bloodhounds were unable to capitalize.
Rutgers-Newark broke open the game in the bottom half of the inning as the Scarlet Raiders recorded four runs on four hits to increase their lead to seven.
With the Bloodhounds trailing 10-0 in the 8th inning, John Jay finally got on the board. With two outs, senior
Corry Harper walked and stole second. Junior
Nestor Amarante drove him in on a RBI single to right field. Rivera then belted a two-run homer to left field to cut the deficit to seven.
However, John Jay would not get any other scoring opportunities and would fall, 11-3, in a nonconference game.Â
Rivera led the Bloodhounds offensively, going 3-for-4, with two RBI's, two stolen bases, and one run scored. Amarante also recorded an RBI and Harper picked up his first stolen base of the season.Â
