The softball team lost two games, 8-0 and 11-3, to the College of Staten Island on Friday evening in Staten Island, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Dolphins improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
In game one, CSI scored three runs in the first inning and five runs in the second. That was all they needed as CSI's Jacqueline Cautela threw a complete game one-hitter, striking out eight. The Bloodhounds lone hit came from freshman
Danielle Minaya in the fourth inning.
Junior
Sara McKenna got the start for the Bloodhounds and threw a complete game. The White Plains, NY native only allowed three earned runs and two walks.
The Bloodhounds opened the scoring in game two as
Jennifer Varela led off the second inning with a single. With two outs and Varela on third, senior
Marlin Rallas reached on an error and Varela scored to give the Bloodhounds their first lead of the evening.
The Dolphins responded right away by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Later on, they added four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 6-1.
In the top of the fifth inning, Rallas led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore
Jamie Lam. Senior
Kalyssa Daley then hit a single and stole second base to create second and third with one out. Minaya drove home Rallas on an RBI single and Daley also scored on the play. In the bottom half of the inning, Staten Island scored five runs to give them an 11-3 victory.
Daley finished the second game, going 2-for-2 with a run scored and stolen base.
The Bloodhounds will travel to the College of New Rochelle on Tuesday, March 25, for a doubleheader starting at 4:00pm.
