Baseball Loses to FDU-Florham

The baseball team lost to Fairleigh Dickinson University - Florham, 12-4, on Thursday afternoon in Madison, NJ. The Bloodhounds drop to 1-11 overall while the Devils improve to 8-3.

The Bloodhounds got an early lead as senior Nico Rivera doubled in the first inning with two outs. Junior Nestor Amarante followed with an RBI single to give John Jay a 1-0 lead. 

Sophomore Matthew Quirindongo got the start and threw two shutout innings. 

The Devils took the lead in the bottom of the third inning when they scored two runs on four hits. They increased the lead to 6-1 after scoring four in the fourth inning on three hits and one error. 

FDU - Florham tacked on another run in the sixth. In the bottom of the eighth, the hosts scored five runs to take a 12-1 lead. The Bloodhounds did not go down without a fight.

In the ninth inning with the bases loaded, senior's Pedro Acosta and Ronald Barillas were hit-by-pitch's. Two batter's later, Rivera drew an RBI walk. 

Rivera, Amarante, and freshman Jason Gonzalez collected two hits each. Junior Shaun Gutkin swiped a base. Senior Corry Harper pitched a scoreless inning in relief. 

FDU - Florham's Joe Hofmann pitched six innings, allowing six hits, one run, and struck out nine to pick up the victory. Frankie Tassielli finished the day, going 2-for-4 with 4 RBI's. Brandan Adams and James Dertouzos registered three hits each. 

The Bloodhounds will head to MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, March 29, for a doubleheader at 12:00pm against Baruch College.
