Box Score 2 Bronx, N.Y – The softball team split a conference double header against Lehman College on Tuesday evening at the South Field. The Bloodhounds took the opening game, 10-6, while the Lightning pulled out a 6-4 win in the second game.With the split, the Bloodhounds are now 4-6 overall and 1-3 in CUNYAC. The Lightning improve to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in CUNYAC.
In game one, after falling behind 2-1 in the first inning, the Bloodhounds exploded in the second inning with seven runs on four hits. Freshman
Alinda Nicaj tripled to score freshman
Jennifer Pace who lead off the inning with a walk. After a few walks and hit batters,
Kalyssa Daley and Pace had a double each combining for 3 RBI's and sophomore
Jamie Lam singled scoring another run for the Bloodhounds.
The Lightning fought back in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-5, but John Jay would pull away with a run in each of the next two frames to take the first game, 10-6.
Senior
Marlin Rallas, junior
Jennifer Varela, Daley and Nicaj combined for eight hits, seven runs scored and four runs batted in.
Junior hurler
Sara McKenna went the distance for the Bloodhounds, giving up six runs on ten hits with a season-high six strikeouts.
In game two, the Bloodhounds took a 2-0 lead after two and a half innings, when the Lightning would tie the game on a single by Kyala Cruz scoring Chariny Graciano. Cruz would later score on an error by the Bloodhound defense.
John Jay would go on to regain the lead, 4-2 in the top of the 4th, but Lehman found holes in the Bloodhound defense to then take the lead, 5-4 in the bottom of the 4th. Both offenses went quietly in the next few innings, until the bottom of the 6th when the Lightning scratched across another run, making it 6-4 going into the 7th inning.
Junior
Jessica Zaccari went 2-4 with an RBI. Varela had another two-hit game and McKenna also added two hits to the Bloodhound offense.
Senior
Lana Kovac suffered the loss in game two, going four innings giving up five runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
The Bloodhounds will head to Mount Saint Mary College on Thursday, April 3, for a double header starting at 3:30pm.
