Box Score The men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season, 5-4, against Lehman College on Thursday night at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Lightning drop to 1-6 on the season and 0-4 in CUNYAC.
The match started with singles play (due to court availability), and John Jay got off to an early lead. Sophomore
Greg Gon won at number two singles, 6-0, 6-1. Junior
Luis Chirinos followed with a 7-5, 6-4 win at number three. Junior
Frantisek Demek then defeated Lehman's number four, 6-1, 6-0.
With the Bloodhounds tied 3-3 heading into doubles, the tandem of Chirinos and Demek gave John Jay a 4-3 lead. The Lightning tied it up at four a piece and the winner of number one doubles would decide the match. Fortunately, the duo of
Yevgeniy Remennik and Gon pulled away with a 8-4 win to give the Bloodhounds their first win of the season.
