Box Score 2 The softball team lost two games, 8-0 and 4-2, to Brooklyn College on Thursday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY. With the loses, the Bloodhounds drop to 5-12 on the season and 2-5 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs improve to 15-9 overall and 4-2 in CUNYAC.
In game one, John Jay was able to muster three hits against Brooklyn's starter, Kayla Hill. Seniors
Kalyssa Daley and
Lana Kovac and junior
Jennifer Varela recorded a hit each. Junior
Sara McKenna got the nod for the Bloodhounds and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five earned runs, and struck out three.
The Bulldogs scored two in the first, one in the third, and five in the sixth inning. Hill threw a complete game shutout, allowing three hits, while striking out seven.
In game two, the Bloodhounds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, Daley singled through the left side to score two. The Bulldogs trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Hill.
In the bottom of the fourth and the score still 2-1 in favor of John Jay, the hosts scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead. Unfortunately, the Bloodhounds were shutout in the fifth and six innings.
Kovac had a solid start, throwing six innings and allowing two earned runs. Daley finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Senior
Marlin Rallas, Varela, and McKenna had the lone hits for John Jay.
The Bloodhounds will face Baruch College on Sunday, April 13, for a doubleheader starting at 12:00pm.
