Softball Defeats York But Falls to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn

The softball team defeated York College, 10-0, and then lost to St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn, 11-2, on Tuesday afternoon in Queens, NY. The Bloodhounds are now 7-14 on the season and 4-6 in the CUNY Athletic Conference.

In game one against the Cardinals, John Jay scored one in the first inning, four in the third, and five in the fourth inning. In the third inning, freshman Jennifer Pace and senior Marlin Rallas recorded RBI singles. Freshman Danielle Minaya then drove home junior Jennifer Varela and Rallas on a two-run single.

One inning later, sophomore Jamie Lam picked up an RBI single and Rallas registered two RBI's on a double. Junior Sara McKenna logged five innings, allowing two runs, two walks, and struck out two.

In game two, the Bears took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Bloodhounds responded by tying it up in the bottom of the second. Junior Jessica Zaccari tripled to left field to score Varela. In the bottom of the fourth, Minaya recorded an RBI single to give the Bloodhounds a 2-1 lead.

Unfortunately, St. Joseph's scored ten runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the nonconference game by a score of 11-2.

The Bloodhounds will face Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, April 15, for a doubleheader starting at 3:00pm.
