John Jay College student-athletes spent their first day of Spring Break teaching children from the "I Have A Dream Foundation" basic drills from various sports and discussing the importance of a good education. John Jay SAAC hosted the Sports Clinic which consisted of six sport stations: basketball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, softball, and darts. All of the children had the opportunity to try each sport. At end of the sports demonstrations the clinic wrapped up with a hotly contested relay race.
The student-athletes appreciated the quality time they were able to spend with the youngsters. "Spending time with the kids brightened up my spring break. Watching the children enjoy themselves made me happy to know I was able to be a part of this event," said men's basketball and men's volleyball player Kendal Jordan.
"I really enjoyed the experience because the kids were eager to play different sports and learn about being a college athlete. It gave us a chance to teach them about teamwork and the importance of staying in school," said women's soccer standout Katelyn Davis.
The overall goal of the clinic was to bring student-athletes together to teach children how to live a healthy and active lifestyle. The student athletes spoke to the children about their college experience and staying focused in school. At the conclusion of the sports clinic the children and the athletes proceeded to the Jay Walk for an outdoor lunch to end a day activity.
