The baseball team lost to Penn State Abington in game one, 4-2, but rebounded to take game two, 10-6, on Saturday afternoon in Abington, PA. The Bloodhounds are now 4-19 on the season while the Nittany Lions are 11-16-1.

In game one, Penn State got off to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-out RBI single. Three innings later, the Nittany Lions tacked on two more runs to lead 3-0 after four innings.

The Bloodhounds were not able to get anything going offensively until the top of the sixth inning. Senior Ronald Barillas led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a walk by freshman R.J. Davila. With two outs and runners on second and third, senior Nico Rivera singled to right center to score two runs and cut the deficit to 3-2.

Penn State responded in the bottom half of the inning by adding an insurance run. Unfortunately, the Bloodhounds did not score in the top of the seventh to fall in game one, 4-2.

On the mound, Rivera tossed six innings (complete game), allowing four runs, three walks, and struck out three. Rivera also registered two RBI's and a stolen base. Barillas, Rivera, senior Corry Harper, junior Shaun Gutkin, and junior Noel Sanchez recorded hits for John Jay.

Just like game one, the Nittany Lions jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. However, the Bloodhounds responded right away by tying the game in the top of the second. John Jay got its first run of the ballgame when Barillas stole home. Davila then picked up an RBI single and Corry Harper drove home Sanchez on a sacrifice fly.

John Jay took its first lead of the day in the following inning when Barillas singled in Rivera with an RBI single to left field. The Bloodhounds would break open the game in the fourth by scoring four runs in the inning. Junior Nestor Amarante and Barillas singled in runs and freshman Brian Cabral roped a two-run double down the left field line.

Penn State cut the deficit to 8-6 in the following frame when the hosts scored three in the inning. John Jay tacked on two insurance runs later in the contest, courtesy of a Sanchez RBI single, to take game two, 10-6.

Junior Matthew Quirindongo got the start for the Bloodhounds and logged seven innings (complete game), allowing four earned runs, three walks, while striking out two. Barillas recorded three hits in the game and Davila, Amarante, Sanchez, and sophomore Esteban Soler had two hits each. Cabral and Barillas both finished with two RBI's.

The Bloodhounds will host conference member Steven's Tech on Wednesday, April 23, at 3:30pm at Randall's Island.
