Softball Loses Two Against Old Westbury and Manhattanville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The softball team fell to the College of Old Westbury, 10-9 and 12-10, on Tuesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds then lost to Manhattanville, 9-0 and 9-1, on Thursday afternoon in Purchase, NY. John Jay is now 8-23 overall and 4-6 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. 

In the first game against Old Westbury, the guests took an early 3-0 lead but the Bloodhounds responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the second. With John Jay leading 9-8 in the top of the seventh, Old Westbury tied the game and would go on to win in extra innings. 

Freshman Jennifer Pace finished with three hits and juniors Jennifer Varela and Jessica Zaccari had two hits each. Junior Sara McKenna threw a complete game, logging eight innings and striking out two. 

In game two, Old Westbury led 10-0 in the top of the third inning. John Jay fought back to cut the deficit to five in the fourth. Unfortunately, the Bloodhounds would lose the second game by a score of 12-10. 

Senior Kalyssa Daley and freshman Danielle Minaya registered three hits each. Minaya, Daley, and McKenna had seven RBI's combined. 

In the first contest vs. Manhattanville, Minaya was the only Bloodhounds to record a hit. Manhattanville scored three in the second, four in the third, and two in the fourth. 

In the second game, Daley and Minaya picked up hits for John Jay. Minaya drove home Daley in the first inning on an RBI single. Manhattanville won the game by a score of 9-1. 

The Bloodhounds will face Hunter College on Saturday, April 26, at the College of Staten Island. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00am.
