Box Score 2 The softball team lost a pair of games to Mount Saint Mary College (NY), 3-2 and 8-0, on Thursday afternoon in Newburgh, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 4-8 overall and remain at 1-3 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Knights improve to 14-6 on the season.
In game one, Mount Saint Mary jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the second. The Bloodhounds responded by a taking a 2-1 lead in the following inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, junior
Jennifer Varela laced a two-run double down the left field line to score seniors
Marlin Rallas and
Lana Kovac.
However, the Knights answered right back by regaining the lead, 3-2. John Jay would go on to lose the first game, 3-2.
Junior
Sara McKenna threw six innings, allowing seven hits, three runs. one walk, and struck out two. Rallas finished going 2-for-3 and Varela recorded both RBI's.
In game two, the Bloodhounds were only able to muster one hit as Mount Saint Mary's pitcher Victoria Goldbach threw a gem. Rallas recorded the lone hit. Kovac got the start and threw 5.1 innings, allowing six earned runs, and struck out two.
The Bloodhounds will head to Wilkes-Barre, PA on Sunday, April 6, for a doubleheader starting at 2:00pm.
