Box Score The baseball team lost to Lehman College, 12-2, in the third game of the series in Bronx, NY. The game counted as nonconference so the Bloodhounds remain at 2-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference and fall to 3-13 overall. Lehman improves to 2-14 overall and remain at 0-4 in the CUNYAC.
Freshman
Charles Mendes and Lehman's Stephen Smith were in a pitcher's duel early on as both pitchers did not allow a run until the fourth inning. In the top of the fourth, freshman
Jason Gonzalez doubled with one out to create second and third. Senior
Ronald Barillas then drove home
R.J. Davila to give the Bloodhounds an early 1-0 lead.
Lehman responded by tying it in the bottom half of the inning on two hits. In the top of the 5th, senior
Nico Rivera singled and then stolen second base. Junior
Nestor Amarante then gave the Bloodhounds a 2-1 lead after driving in Rivera with an RBI single to right field. The Lightning tied it in the bottom of the sixth.
Lehman would go on to score two in the seventh to take their first lead of the game. They added eight insurance runs in the 8th inning to take the nonconference game, 12-2.
Amarante and Gonzalez picked up two hits each and Gonzalez also recorded a stolen base. Barillas finished with a hit and RBI. Rivera had a hit and stolen base.
Lehman's Stephen Smith pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned run), and struck out 11. Socrates Peralta went 3-for-4 with two runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
The Bloodhounds will head to Western Connecticut State on Tuesday, April 8, for a doubleheader starting at 3:00pm.
