Box Score 2 The softball team fell to Staten Island, 7-0, and Brooklyn College, 11-3, in the CUNYAC softball tournament in Flushing, NY. The Bloodhounds end the season with an overall record of 9-27 and CUNYAC record of 4-8.
In game one against CSI, John Jay faced CSI's ace and CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year. The Dolphins got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when the home team scored two runs. The following inning, Staten Island added four runs to lead 6-0 after three full innings.
The Bloodhounds were not able to get anything going offensively. The team only recorded two hits, courtesy of freshman
Danielle Minaya and senior
Marlin Rallas. The Dolphins would take the game by a score of 7-0.
Junior
Sara McKenna threw a complete game and allowed three earned runs.
In an elimination game vs. Brooklyn, the Bulldogs opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning and led 2-0 after two. The Bloodhound bats woke up in the third inning. Rallas and senior
Lana Kovac led off the inning drawing back-to-back walks. A ground out by senior
Kalyssa Daley moved the runners over to second and third with one out. Freshman
Jennifer Pace delivered an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. Minaya then smacked a double to drive in two runs and the Bloodhounds led 3-2.
Brooklyn would not score the next two innings and with four innings complete, John Jay still led 3-2. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the fifth when they scored nine unanswered runs to win the game by a score of 11-3.
Daley, Pace, Minaya, and McKenna recorded hits for the Bloodhounds. Minaya and Pace had two and one RBI each, respectively.
This games turned out to be the final one of Kalyssa Daley, Lana Kovac, Marlin Rallas, and Sandy Requeno's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future! Follow John Jay Athletics:
