Box Score The #5 men's soccer team upset #4 Baruch College, 1-0, in the CUNYAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday evening at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 7-11 on the season. The Bearcats end the season with an 8-8 overall record.Â
"We played with heart tonight, which led us to play the best game in my three years here," senior
Pablo Rojas said.
Baruch controlled much of the first half as the Bearcats outshot the Bloodhounds 8-2. John Jay had its best opportunity of the half in the final minutes as sophomore
Curtis Harbers dribbled the ball down the right sideline and crossed into the box but the Bloodhounds were unable to capitalize. Junior
Sehad Mujovic got the start in net and made three saves in the first forty-five minutes.Â
In the second half, John Jay intensified the pressure and began capitalizing on Bearcat mistakes. In the 65th minute, senior
Graysen Carlson created a turnover and blasted a shot that hit off the crossbar to keep the game scoreless.
In the 72nd minute, Rojas found a loose ball in the box and buried it into the back of the net for the first goal of the match. It was Rojas' second goal of the season.Â
"The goal was something I will always remember no matter what happens," added Rojas.
In the final minutes, the Bearcats had limited opportunities as John Jay's defenders consistently cleared the zone. Mujovic ended up picking up his fourth win and second shutout in 2015.Â
The Bloodhounds advance to the CUNYAC Semifinals for the first time since 2006 (lost to Baruch in championship). John Jay will face #1 College of Staten Island on Saturday, October 31, at 2:00 pm at Brooklyn College. During their regular season matchup, the Bloodhounds lost 3-0.Â
"We are looking forward to facing the Dolphins," Rojas stated. "Today's victory is definitely a step in the right direction."
