The #5 men's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit but fell to #1 College of Staten Island, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in a CUNYAC semifinals match at Brooklyn College. The Bloodhounds end the season with an overall record of 7-12. The Dolphins improve to 10-8-1 overall.
Staten Island got on the scoreboard in the 14th minute of play to take an early 1-0 lead. With 11:44 remaining in the half, the Dolphins added to their lead, 2-0.
The Bloodhounds increased the pressure in the closing minutes of the half when senior
Graysen Carlson had a scoring opportunity but CSI's goalie made the save. Moments later, junior Abdul Malik Muftau rang one off the crossbar that led to an unassisted goal by junior
Alexis Bustillo to cut the deficit to one.
John Jay trailed 2-1 heading into halftime. The Bloodhounds were outshot in the first forty-five minutes by a margin of 11-5. Junior
Sehad Mujovic made the start in net and picked up four saves.
The second half of the contest began with both teams picking up their tempo. Halfway through the second stanza, Bustillo crossed a ball into the box, which was headed by senior
Justin Osorio to tie the game at two apiece.
Unfortunately, the Dolphins responded less than two minutes later to regain the lead. CSI added two late goals to go on for a 5-2 victory.
Mujovic finished with six saves. Carlson led the Bloodhounds in shots with four.
