Box Score 2 The softball team lost their first two games of the 2015 season in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Bloodhounds fell to Anna Maria College, 3-1, and Gwynedd Mercy University, 8-5.
"Overall, we played aggressive and smart softball today," head coach
Catherine Alves said. "Combining the line-ups efforts and driving in runs is critical and our offense fell short."
Highlights from Game 1 against Anna Maria College:
- Sophomore Jennifer Pace went 2-for-4 with a walk and run scored
- Sophomore Danielle Minaya went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double
- Junior Jamie Lam picked up a hit and walk
- Senior Sara McKenna pitched a complete game and gave up three runs (two earned)
- The Bloodhounds played excellent defense
Highlights from Game 2 against Gwynedd Mercy University:
- Freshman Lisa Pellegrino went 2-for-4 with a run scored and played stellar defense at third base
- Minaya went 1-for-2 with a double, a pair of walks, and two runs scored
- Senior Jessica Zaccari went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI's and a walk
- Freshman Nalena Cruzado went 3-for-4, falling a homerun short of a cycle, with 2 RBI's
- McKenna threw her second complete game of the day with 3 strikeouts
"It is exciting to see our returners bring a new level of intensity to the game, but even more exciting to see our young rookies settling in so quickly," Alves added.Â
The Bloodhounds return to the field tomorrow, March 2, for a doubleheader. John Jay faces Gwynedd Mercy at 9:30 a.m. and Rosemont College at 11:30 a.m.Â
