Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game to Vassar College

The baseball team lost to Vassar College, 13-5, on Saturday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 3-29 overall. The Brewers improve to 9-17 on the season. 

Vassar got on the scoreboard first as the home team scored a run in the bottom of the first. In the Bloodhounds' next frame, sophomore Brian Cabral. senior Nestor Amarante, and sophomore Jason Gonzalez hit back-to-back-to-back singles to load up the bases with no outs. Sophomore Nick Gioia picked up a RBI single and sophomore Esteban Soler recorded a RBI sacrifice fly to give John Jay a 2-1 lead. 

In the bottom half of the inning, the Brewers tied it up at two apiece. Vassar took the lead in their next frame as the host's plated four runs to lead 6-2. They tacked on three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. In the top of the eighth, sophomore Dylan Laudano and freshman Christian Rodriguez registered RBI singles each but John Jay would go on to lose, 13-5. 

Senior David Schildwachter got the start and threw four innings. Sophomore Michael Wang pitched the final two innings in relief. 

Sophomore Zach Hyde went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Soler had a hit, run, RBI, and one stolen base. 

The Bloodhounds close out the season next week when they play a home-and-home series with Yeshiva University on Monday, May 4, and Tuesday May, 5.
