The men's soccer team was outscored in the second half to fall to SUNY New Paltz, 4-3, on Monday afternoon in New Paltz, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 1-3 on the season. The Hawks remain undefeated at 3-0.
The first fifteen minutes of the match was scoreless as both goalkeepers kept their teams in the game. New Paltz opened the scoring at the 15:55 mark in the first half to lead, 1-0. Six minutes later, senior
Graysen Carlson split threw the defenders to score on a breakaway to tie the game at one apiece. The goal was Carlson's seventh of the season.
The Hawks regained the lead with 20 minutes left in the half but once again the Bloodhounds responded. With four minutes remaining, sophomore
Curtis Harbers made a pass inside the box and senior
Pablo Rojas tapped it in for his first goal of the season.
At the half, the score was tied, 2-2. John Jay was outshot in the first 45 minutes, 18-3.
Early in the second half, New Paltz once again took a one-goal lead. The hosts increased their lead to 4-2 at the 66:44 mark. With the Bloodhounds increasing the pressure,
Abdul Malik Muftau recorded his first goal as a Bloodhound to cut the deficit to one. Unfortunately, John Jay couldn't find the back of the net in the final 15 minutes to fall, 4-3.
Harber finished with two assists and junior
Kardon Bartley picked up an assist. Sophomore
Daniel Hoyte recorded six saves in the tilt.
