The #7 women's basketball team fell to #6 Hunter College, 59-50, on Friday evening on the campus of City College. The Bloodhounds end the season with a 6-20 overall record. The Hawks improve to 10-16 on the season.

Shaliyah Ruiz picked up a double-double for the Bloodhounds with a team-high 13 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, and a team-high five assists. Senior
Terri Chu recorded 12 points and senior
Amber Villegas grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman
Karen Rosario registered eight points and five boards. Junior
Cassandra Taylor swiped a team-high two steals.
The Bloodhounds took an early 5-0 lead but Hunter responded by scoring six straight points to take their first lead. John Jay then went on an 8-0 run to retake the lead, 13-6. John Jay went into the second quarter up, 13-7. With 7:05 left in the half, John Jay increased its advantage to 10. The Hawks cut the deficit to 23-16 heading into halftime.Â
John Jay scored the first four points in the third to lead by 11. The Hawks fought back on a 14-2 run to take a one-point advantage. The hosts led 37-33 after three quarters.
The Bloodhounds opened the final period on a 7-2 run to regain the lead, 40-39. Down by three with 5:38 on the clock, a three-pointer by Ruiz tied the game at 43-43. Hunter then scored four straight points but John Jay cut it to a two-point deficit in their next possession. However, one minute later the Hawks increased its lead back up to seven with 0:45 left.Â
John Jay finished 20-for-66 (30.3%) from the floor, 4-for-19 (21.1%) from behind the arc, and 6-for-14 (42.9%) from the free-throw line.
This match turned out to be the final one of
Amber Villegas and
Terri Chu's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future!
