The women's soccer team cruised to a 5-1 victory over St. Joseph's College Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-0 and are off to its best start in program history. The Bears drop to 0-1 on the season.
Sophomore
Kali Moss got the Bloodhounds off to a fast start with her first career goal as a Bloodhound. In the 35th minute, freshman
Sydney Solimani picked up her second goal of the season on a deflection. One minute later, the Bears responded to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Right before halftime, freshman
Mary Jo Anzano received a pass from Solimani and buried it into the back of the net for her first career collegiate goal. John Jay went into the half leading 3-1. The Bloodhounds outshot St. Joseph's, 12-2.
In the 66th minute, sophomore
May Dempsey notched her first goal of the season on a pass from Anzano. Senior
Jessica Monge capped off the day with a goal to give the Bloodhounds a 5-1 victory.
Solimani and Anzano finished with a goal and assist each. Junior
Kelli Doherty picked up the win.
The Bloodhounds will look to extend its win streak on Wednesday, September 7, when they travel to Rowan University for a non-conference game at 7:00 pm.
