Box Score The #2 men's soccer team fell to #1 Lehman College, 3-1, in the CUNYAC Championship on Saturday afternoon at the College of Staten Island. This was John Jay's first appearance in the CUNYAC finals in program history.
The first 10 minutes went back-and-forth with both teams seeing limited scoring chances. In the 11th minute, the Lightning got on the scoreboard to take a 1-0 lead. John Jay intensified the pressure and had back-to-back corner kicks but could not capitalize. Freshman
Mark Shnadshteyn had a great scoring chance in the 34th minute but his shot was just wide left.
At halftime, John Jay outshot Lehman by a margin of 11-5. Senior
Alexandros Taliotis made three saves. John Jay led with three corner kicks.
Three minutes into the second period, the Lightning were awarded a penalty kick. Lehman would capitalize and increase its lead to 2-0. The Bloodhounds quickly increased their pressure but could not find the back of the net.
In the 84th minute, sophomore
Samboudiang Faye blasted a shot from outside the box to cut the deficit to 2-1 and give the Bloodhounds hope. However, Lehman responded with a goal two minutes later and would hold on for a 3-1 victory.
Shnadshteyn led John Jay with five shots. Senior
Alexis Bustillo recorded two shots on goal. Taliotis finished with seven saves.
The Bloodhounds will await word on the ECAC Postseason Tournament.
