Baseball Loses Late Lead; Falls to NYU

The baseball team lost to New York University, 7-4, on Wednesday afternoon at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 1-2 on the season. The Violets improve to 1-0.

John Jay got on the board in the top of the first when junior Brian Garcia picked up a two-out RBI double down the right field line to score junior Zach Hyde. Senior R.J. Davila followed with a two-run triple to right center to score senior Dylan Laudano and Garcia. NYU scored in the second and third innings as the Bloodhounds led 3-2.

In the top of the fourth with the bases load, senior Charlee Rodriguez drew a walk to put John Jay ahead 4-2. However, the Violets tied the game in the seventh and scored three runs in the eighth to record the victory in their season opener.

Freshman Jared Hershfield got his first collegiate start and threw 5.2 innings, allowing two hits, two runs, and struck out two. Hyde finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

The Bloodhounds travel down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for their annual Spring Trip. On Thursday, March 2, John Jay faces York College of Pennsylvania at 3:00 pm and Johnson and Wales at 6:00 pm.
