The baseball team fell to Penn State Abington, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon in Jenkentown, PA. The Bloodhounds drop to 7-12 on the year. The Nittany Lions improve to 5-17.
Senior
Dylan Laudano was 1-for-2 with an RBI, run scored, and two walks. Senior
R.J. Davila and
Zach Hyde picked up a hit and RBI each. Junior
Brian Garcia and sophomore
Brandon Thomas both registered one hit and one run scored.
Freshman
Jared Hershfield got the start and threw seven innings, allowing six hits, four runs (three earned), and struck out four. Senior
Charles Mendes pitched the final inning.
John Jay got on the scoreboard in the first inning. With two out and no one on, Garcia doubled to right center and scored on an RBI single by Laudano. Penn State Abington tied up the game in the bottom of the second 1-1. In the top of the third, Thomas led off with a triple and Hyde followed with an RBI double to center field.
The Nittany Lions took their first lead of the contest in the fourth after scoring three runs to lead 4-2. Two insurance runs in the eighth added to their advantage. In the last inning, Laudano drew a walk and advanced to third on a double by sophomore
C.J. Meyer. An RBI ground out by Davila cut the deficit to three but John Jay would fall by a final score of 6-3.
The Bloodhounds travel to American Legion Field in Brooklyn on Thursday, April 14, for a non-conference game against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn at 12:00 pm.
