Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The #4 baseball team defeated #5 Lehman College, 4-1, in a single-elimination play-in game on Thursday afternoon in Staten Island, NY. The Bloodhounds then upset #1 College of Staten Island, 6-4, by scoring four runs in the top of the ninth. John Jay is now in the winner's bracket of the CUNYAC Championship.

In the game against the Lightning, Christian Rodriguez came through with his best game of the season in a must-win scenario. The junior threw a complete game, allowing five hits, one run, three walks, and struck out eight.

In the bottom of the second with no score, the Bloodhounds loaded the bases with no out. Senior Jason Gonzalez delivered a two-run single to left field to give John Jay an early 2-0 lead. Lehman answered in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Jurrel Diaz scored on a passed ball and junior Zach Hyde crossed home plate on a wild pitch to increase the advantage back up to three. That was all Rodriguez needed as the ace was stellar all game long.

Davila, Hyde, Gonzalez, and Diaz all had hits for John Jay.

In the double-elimination game against the Dolphins, the contest once again featured a pitcher's duel. Freshman Sean Napier got the start and cruised through six innings.

The hosts scored a run in the first to go up early. The Bloodhounds tied the score in the fourth inning when sophomore C.J. Meyer came through with an RBI single through the left side to score senior Dylan Laudano. Staten Island regained the lead in the sixth and added two insurance runs in the seventh to go up 4-1 after seven full innings.

In the eighth, Laudano picked up a two-out RBI single to score Davila to trim the lead to 4-2. In the top of the ninth with two outs and runners on first and second, Hyde delivered an RBI single to right field to plate sophomore Brandon Thomas. Davila followed and blasted a clutch two-run triple over the right fielder to give John Jay their first lead of the contest, 5-4. Junior Brian Garcia recorded a much-needed RBI single to give the Bloodhounds an insurance run.

Freshman Danny Wynne threw a scoreless inning in the ninth to pick up his second victory of the season. Davila finished 3-for-5 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Laudano and Thomas went 2-for-4 with a run. Napier finished with 6.1 innings pitched and allowed 10 hits, four runs (two earned), two walks, and one strike out.

This win was John Jay's first playoff win against the Dolphins since 2012. R.J. Davila also recorded his 100th career hit in the game.

The Bloodhounds will face #3 Baruch College in the winner's bracket on Saturday, May 6, at the College of Staten Island. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
