DeMarco Forces OT But Men's Soccer Loses at Maritime

The men's soccer team fell to Maritime College, 3-2 in double overtime, on Wednesday night in Throggs Neck, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 1-1 on the year. The Privateers stay perfect at 3-0.

The first thirty minutes remained scoreless as freshman Steven Towler made his collegiate appearance in goal. In the 33rd minute, freshman Mark Shnadshteyn opened the scoring on a shot off a spin around past a Maritime defender. It was his third goal of the season. Approximately four-and-a-half minutes later, the Privateers evened the score to close out the half.

In the second half, Maritime took their first lead of the match at the 58:47 mark. The Bloodhounds intensified their pressure and in the 84th minute, sophomore Michael DeMarco found the back of the net to send the game into overtime. Senior Alexis Bustillo was credited with the assist.

In the first extra period, Maritime outshot the Bloodhounds by a margin of 3-1. One minute into the second overtime, the Privateers netted the game-winner.

Senior Alexandros Taliotis finished with three saves. DeMarco and Shnadshteyn registered three shots and two shots on goal each.

The Bloodhounds travel to Penn State Berks on Saturday, September 9, for a non-conference match at 5:00 pm.
