Box Score The women's basketball team registered its first win of the season defeating Medgar Evers College, 65-50, on Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-14 on the year and 1-6 in the conference. The Cougars fall to 0-15 and 0-7 in CUNYAC.
Sophomore
Kaitlin Koehler recorded a career-high and game-high 22 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor, and seven rebounds. Junior
Christianne Perez notched her first double-double as a Bloodhound with 17 points and 10 boards. Senior
Dana Nicholson finished with 12 points, five rebounds, a season-high and team-high five assists, and a team-high two steals. Freshman
Jessica Gorman picked up a team-high 12 rebounds and eight points.
Medgar Evers took an early 5-4 lead but a three-pointer by Koehler gave John Jay their first lead of the game. A jumper by Gorman and a layup by Koehler increased the lead to six. The Cougars followed on an 8-0 run to go up 13-11. Koehler ended the quarter draining a three to give the Bloodhounds a one-point advantage.
John Jay scored the first six points of the second period. Perez converted a layup with 27 seconds left to put the Bloodhounds ahead 24-17 at the half.
Medgar Evers cut the deficit to 26-23 with 7:34 left in the third. Perez responded with a three but the Cougars followed with seven straight points to take a one-point lead. Nicholson and Perez then made back-to-back jumpers to put the Bloodhound ahead by three.
John Jay broke open the game on a 13-0 run and led 49-36 heading into the final period. The Bloodhounds outscored the hosts 16-14 in the fourth to hold on for their first victory of the year.
John Jay finished 21-for-57 (36.8%) from the field, 6-for-10 (60.0%) from behind the arc, and 17-for-25 (68.0%) from the free-throw line.
