The women's soccer team recorded a 2-1 OT victory against Lehman College in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds are on a six-game win streak and improve to 10-4-1. John Jay finishes their conference schedule with a program-best record of 5-1. The Lightning drop to 7-5-1 and 3-2 in CUNYAC.
The first thirty minutes went back-and-forth as neither team found the back of the net. In the 34th minute, freshman sensation
Gianna Russo scored her 14th goal of the season on a cross by freshman
Katie Healy. Russo is tied for second in the conference in goals.
At the half, each team had four shots. Freshman
Brittany Shaneberger tallied one save.
Approximately 15 minutes into the second period, the hosts scored to tie the game at 1-1. In regulation, both teams finished with 10 shots apiece. Shaneberger had five saves.
In the 96th minute, freshman
Anneliese Tucci blasted a free kick past the goalkeeper for the game-winner.
John Jay will head into the CUNYAC Postseason Tournament as the second seed.
The Bloodhounds close out the 2018 regular season on Monday, October 22, against New York University at Gaelic Park at 7:00 pm.
