#4 Men's Soccer Fights Hard But Falls to #1 Staten Island 2-1 in Overtime

The #4 men's soccer team lost to #1 College of Staten Island, 2-1, in overtime on Tuesday afternoon at Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds end their season with an overall record of 6-9-1. The Dolphins advance to the CUNYAC Championship.

The Bloodhounds got on the scoreboard in the ninth minute when freshman Joey Licciardi scored inside the box. Sophomore Mergim Mehmeti was credited with the assist.

The Dolphins intensified the pressure but John Jay played stellar defense. CSI outshot the Bloodhounds 9-1 in the first half but sophomore Steven Towler made a few big saves and finished the period with two saves.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Staten Island scored the equalizer to knot the score at one apiece. Towards the end of regulation, S. Towler made back-to-back point blank saves to send the match into overtime.

One minute into the extra period, the Dolphins scored the game-winning goal to eliminate the Bloodhounds from the postseason tournament.

S. Towler recorded six saves and Licciardi finished with a team-high two shots.

This match turned out to be the final one of Adam Aidara and Talles Moreira's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future!
