Making their first championship appearance since 2011, the #2 women's soccer team fell to #1 College of Staten Island, 6-2, on a windy Saturday afternoon at Brooklyn College.
The Dolphins got off to a quick start with two goals in the first five minutes. Trailing 4-0 in the 40th minute, freshman
Anneliese Tucci placed a perfect shot off a free kick in the top left corner to cut the deficit to three heading into halftime. It was the defenders sixth goal of the season.
At the half, Staten Island led in shots by a margin of 13-7. Freshman
Brittany Shaneberger made five saves.
CSI scored two goals within 20 minutes of the second half. In the 71st minute, freshman
Katie Healy blasted a shot off a free kick in the top right corner. The midfielder is now second on the team in goals with nine.
Healy led the way with a team-high four shots and team-high three shots on goal. Shaneberger finished the contest with six saves.
The Bloodhounds will now await to see if the team qualifies for their first ECAC postseason appearance.
