Box Score 2 The baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Maritime College on Opening Day on Saturday afternoon at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, NY. The Bloodhounds fell in game one, 6-1, before taking the second game, 4-1.
In the first game, senior
Christian Rodriguez got the nod and threw four innings. Sophomore
Sean Napier pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs, no hits, and no walks. In his John Jay debut, senior
Ryan Osborne smacked a double.
The Privateers opened the scoring in the second with two runs. The hosts added to their lead by scoring three in the third. In the last inning, junior
Jurrel Diaz crossed home plate for the Bloodhounds' lone run.
In game two,
Jared Hershfield picked up the win of the season on the mound. The sophomore delivered six impressive innings, allowing one run (no earned), two hits, and struck out three. Sophomore
Danny Wynne came in in relief to record the save after striking out two.
Offensively, Osborne led the way going 2-for-4 with two RBI's, one run, and one stolen base. Napier went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Junior
William De La Cruz finished 1-for-1 with a run scored and stolen base.
Maritime took an early 1-0 lead after scoring in the first. The Bloodhounds responded to tie the game in the top of the second. John Jay broke open the game scoring three runs in the sixth.
The Bloodhounds will travel to Myrtle Beach, SC for their annual Spring Training Trip. John Jay opens up against York College of PA on Wednesday, February 28, at 11:00 am.
