Baseball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader with College of New Rochelle

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader against the College of New Rochelle at Purchase College. The Bloodhounds won the first game, 9-1, but fell in game two, 7-6. The Bloodhounds are now 2-8 on the season. The Blue Angels are now 1-11. 

In game one, senior Christian Rodriguez picked up his ninth win of his career. The right-hander threw a complete game, allowing seven hits, one run, and struck out three. 

With the score tied 1-1, John Jay scored seven runs in the fifth inning. Juniors Alexis Martinez, William De La Cruz, C.J. Meyer, and Steven Catuogno all recorded RBI's in the inning. 

Meyer finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a stolen base. Martinez and Garcia registered two runs and a hit each. 

In the second game, senior Ryan Osborne doubled in junior Brandon Thomas to give the Bloodhounds an early 1-0 lead. New Rochelle responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. 

In the top of the second, freshman Connor Stern delivered a two-run RBI single to plate Meyer to tie the score. The Blue Angels followed with four runs to lead 6-2. 

John Jay scored three runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-5. Sophomore Sean Napier picked up an RBI triple to center field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Thomas. With two outs, Meyer smacked a double to left field to plate junior Dylan Locke

New Rochelle tacked on an insurance run in the bottom half to lead 7-5. 

In the top of the seventh, Napier and Osborne singled with one out to create first and third. Napier cut the lead to 7-6 after scoring on a balk. With two outs and the game-tying run on third, Meyer popped out to the catcher. 

Napier, Thomas, and Osborne finished with two hits and an RBI each. Junior Jurrel Diaz threw two innings in relief. Sophomore Danny Wynne came in for the final five outs and did not allow a run. 

The Bloodhounds travel to Centenary University on Friday, March 23, for a game at 12:00 pm.
