Softball Loses Two to SJC Long Island; Fall in Game 1 in Extra Innings

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader, 5-3 (9 innings) and 9-1, against St. Joseph's College Long Island on Tuesday afternoon in Patchogue, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 3-9 on the season. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-4. 

In game one, the hosts scored a run in the first inning. In the top of the fourth, John Jay scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. 

In the bottom of the fifth, SJCLI plated two runs to tie the score at three apiece. The Golden Eagles hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to win game one.

Freshman Tommi Mandell went 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored. Sophomore Jessica Barbaria finished 1-for-3 with a double, run, and stolen base. Senior Lisa Pellegrino threw eight innings in the circle.

In the second game, SJCLI opened the game with three runs in the first. Two innings later, Barbaria recorded an RBI single to score Mandell to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Golden Eagles responded with six unanswered runs. 

Barbaria went 1-for-2 with an RBI. 

The Bloodhounds host SUNY Canton in their home opening doubleheader on Saturday, March 31, at 11:30 am at Fordham University.
