Softball Falls to SUNY Canton; Pounds out 15 Hits in Game One

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The softball team lost a non-conference doubleheader against SUNY Canton, 21-12 and 15-4, on Saturday afternoon at Fordham University in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds drop to 3-11 on the season. The Kangaroos improve to 3-7. 

In game one, sophomore Mariela Guzman was a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman Tommi Mandell finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Senior Lisa Pellegrino and sophomore Jessica Barbaria went 2-for-3 with two RBI's each. Junior Inelza Salcedo crushed her second homer of the season. Sophomore Karen Rosario was 2-for-3 with a double, run scored, and RBI. 

The guests opened the scoring in the first with a pair of runs. In the bottom of the third, John Jay took its first lead of the contest after plating three runs. SUNY Canton responded with 11 runs to hold a 13-3 advantage. 

The Bloodhounds cut the deficit down to six after scoring four in the fourth. However, the Kangaroos added to its lead with eight runs in the top of the fifth. John Jay followed with four in the bottom half to fall 21-12. 

In game two, Barbaria, Pellegrino, and Guzman all finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Pellegrino had the Bloodhounds' lone RBI. 

SUNY Canton scored one in the first but John Jay fought back with four in the bottom half of the inning. The visitors followed with 14 unanswered runs to win by a final score of 15-4. 

The Bloodhounds travel to Sarah Lawrence College on Thursday, April 11, for a doubleheader at 3:30 pm.
