Box Score The baseball team lost to Penn State Abington, 8-6, on Wednesday afternoon in Jenkintown, PA. The Bloodhounds fall to 6-13 on the season. The Nittany Lions improve to 12-7.
Juniors
Steven Catuogno and
C.J. Meyer recorded two hits, including a double, and a run scored each. Junior
Jurrel Diaz blasted a three-run homer, his team-leading third of the season. Senior
Brian Garcia, junior
Alexis Martinez, and freshman
Connor Stern all picked up a hit and RBI. Freshman
Nick Jack threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.
John Jay jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second as Stern knocked in Meyer with an RBI single. Abington answered with a run in the third and two in the fourth.
In the top of the fifth, Garcia and Martinez drove in a run a piece to tie the score at 3-3. The hosts followed with three in the bottom half to regain the lead. Abington added an insurance run in both the seventh and eighth innings to lead 8-3.
In the top of the ninth, Diaz drove in freshman
Angel Curbelo and junior
Dylan Locke with a three-run home run. However, Abington retired the next two batters to win the non-conference game.
The Bloodhounds host the University of Maine, Presque Isle on Sunday, April 15, for a conference doubleheader at Fordham University. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 am.
