Box Score 2 The softball team swept York College, 17-1 and 12-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 6-16 on the year and 3-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cardinals drop to 1-14 and 0-9 in the conference.
In game one, senior
Lisa Pellegrino went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a game-high five RBI's, and three runs scored. Sophomore
Mariela Guzman finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a homer, two RBI's, a pair of stolen bases, and one run. Sophomore
Jessica Barbaria was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, a game-high four runs, and two RBI's. Freshman
Tommi Mandell crossed home plate three times and freshman
AnneMarie Rivera had two runs and a pair of stolen bases. Freshman Samantha Gressed added two RBI's.
In the circle, Pellegrino picked up her second win of the season after throwing five innings and allowed five hits, one run (no earned), no walks, and struck out eight.
York scored in the top of the first but John Jay responded with two in the bottom half of the inning. The Bloodhounds followed with five in the second, seven in the third, and three in the fourth.
In game two, A. Rivera recorded her fourth win after pitching five innings and surrendering three hits, one run, and three walks while striking out five. The left-hander also went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Sophomore
Marissa Artz finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI. Sophomore
Karen Rosario registered two RBI's and a triple. Barbaria and Gresser added two hits a piece.
John Jay scored all of its runs in the first two innings. The Cardinals scored its lone run in the third.
The Bloodhounds travel to New Jersey City University on Thursday, April 19, for a non-conference doubleheader at 3:00 pm.
