Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The baseball team suffered two tough defeats to the College of Staten Island, 4-3 and 7-6, on Monday evening on the campus of CSI. The Bloodhounds fall to 6-12 on the season and 1-3 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Dolphins improve to 8-8 and 3-0 in CUNYAC.

In game one, senior Christian Rodriguez got the start and pitched a gem. The right-hander threw 5.2 innings and allowed five hits, three runs (one earned), and struck out four. Senior Ryan Osborne finished 2-for-3 with two runs, two walks, and three stolen bases. Junior C.J. Meyer picked up a hit and RBI. Freshman Phil Bellomo went 1-for-1 with a stolen base. Sophomore Daniel Wynne pitched 3.2 innings in relief and allowed four hits, one run (no earned), one walk, and struck out five.

John Jay scored two runs in the top of the second to take an early lead. Staten Island answered with two in the fourth to tie the score. Both teams scored a run in the sixth and the game would go into extra innings. Each team had runners in scoring position in extras but could not capitalize. In the bottom of the 10th, CSI scored to take the first game.

In game two, senior Brian Garcia went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI's. Osborne was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Junior Alexis Martinez finished 2-for-4 with a run. Junior Brandon Thomas went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Senior Robert Moncino registered two hits and a run. Junior Steven Catuogno recorded one hit and two RBI's.

The Bloodhounds jumped out in the first as Garcia drove in Thomas with an RBI single. In the next frame, Catuogno smacked a two-run single to left field to increase John Jay's lead to 3-0.

The hosts responded with three in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth to hold a 6-3 advantage. In the top of the fifth, Osborne, Garcia, and Meyer all picked up RBI's to once again tie the game at six apiece.

A solo home run in the sixth by the Dolphins put CSI up by one heading into the last inning. With one out, Osborne crushed a triple to center field. Unfortunately, the Bloodhounds couldn't score him and fell by a final score of 7-6.

The Bloodhounds travel to Penn State Abington on Wednesday, April 11, for a non-conference single game at 3:30 pm.
